Visiting Seattle
If you're here visiting Seattle for the first time we hope you'll be able to get out and explore our gorgeous state a little! Washington is fantastically beautiful and there is a plethora of outdoorsy things to do.
We recommend:
Taking a hike. There are a ton of close day hikes in a range of difficulties that are a great way to experience some of that idyllic Pacific Northwest beauty.
If you have an extra day head up to Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park. It's out on the Olympic Peninsula so it's a bit of a drive but it is one of the most beautiful areas in the world. You can take a modest or difficult hike and bask in the alpine beauty while taking in the distant views of the Olympic Mountains and Canada. And there is always a fairly good chance you'll run into some furry deer pals.
If you do head out to the Olympic Peninsula stop and explore the little town of Port Townsend. There are a ton of local art galleries and a fantastic cheese-monger . Plus it's right on the water and you have to take a ferry over which is always a great Seattle activity!
Kayaking on Lake Union is a beautiful way to get out on the water without ferry lines. It's a great way to get a little exercise and see Lake Union from a different perspective! Try to go just before sunset when the light will be incredible.
While a trip to Pike Place Market might seem like the quintessential visiting Seattle activity (and is certainly a fun place to visit) any of the local farmer's markets are a great way to interact with smaller local farmers and get fantastic produce. There is one practically every day of the week in a different neighborhood and they will all have beautiful produce, cheeses, meat, flowers and delicious food trucks. Wander a bit and pick up stuff for a picnic, you won't be sorry!
There are a million great restaurants in Seattle. If anyone would like specific recommendations email Lily at lily.ellis@gmail.com and she'll tailor some recommendations based on your taste! Although it's really hard to go wrong with local seafood...
We hope you have a fantastic time visiting! We love it here and we're so excited to share our beautiful city with all of you.
